Men’s Singles Draw Preview
Top Half
Playing his first tournament after Wimbledon, Carlos Alcaraz will headline the top half of the Hamburg draw. He will take on wildcard Nicola Kuhn in the first round and will face either in form Sebastian Baez or Filip Krajinovic in the second round. He is drawn opposite 7th seed Karen Khachanov who will open against Jan-Lennard Struff. The winner will face either the winner of the match between Fabio Fognini and Aljaz Bedene. Khachanov is expected to meet Alcaraz in the last 8.
4th seed and defending champion Pablo Carreno Busta will open against a qualifier and will face yet another qualifier or Alex Molcan in the second round. Danish teenager and 8th seed Holger Rune also is in the second quarter and will face Tallon Griekspoor in the opening round. Laslo Djere will meet Borna Coric in the first round and is expected to play Rune in the second round. Carreno Busta and Rune are drawn to meet in the quarterfinals.
1st Semifinal Prediction: Carlos Alcaraz vs Pablo Carreno Busta
Bottom Half
Andrey Rublev will headline the bottom half of the draw and will face Alexander Bublik in a nightmare first-round match. He will then face either yet another in-form player Francisco Cerundolo or Daniel Altmaier in the Round of 16. 6th seed Nikoloz Basilashvili will take on Aslan Karatsev in another blockbuster opening round clash. The winner will most probably face Federico Coria in the second round. This is a very open quarter of the draw but Rublev and Basilashvili are expected to meet in the quarterfinals.
Third seed and 3-time finalist at Hamburg, Diego Schwartzman will open his campaign against Emil Ruusuvuori. He will then face either Lorenzo Musetti or Dusan Lajovic in the Round of 16 and is drawn opposite Botic Van de Zandschulp who will face Alejandro Davidovich Fokina in the first round with the winner facing either a qualifier or Max Hans Rehberg in the second round. Botic and Schwartzman are expected to meet in the last 8.

Semifinals
In an All-Spaniard battle, Carlos Alcaraz will be up against Pablo Carreno Busta in the first semifinals. Alcaraz will be the favorite to win the match given his results on clay earlier this year. Carreno Busta’s experience will play into his hands but expect Alcaraz to beat him in the last 4.
In the second semifinal, two of the best clay court players in the world currently, Diego Schwartzman and Andrey Rublev will meet each other. Schwartzman has done well in the tournament over the years but Rublev’s pace on clay is very hard to beat. Having said that, expect a thrilling match with Rublev moving into the final.
European Open Final: Carlos Alcaraz vs Andrey Rublev
Final
The two best players in the tournament, Carlos Alcaraz and Andrey Rublev will be up against each other in the final of the 2022 European Open. Alcaraz was the pre-tournament favorite and will enter the match with the same tag. Rublev has a lot of experience than Alcaraz but the Spaniard’s shot-making on clay is one of the best in the world. Expect a tight match with Alcaraz winning his 5th title of the season.
