The current World No. 5 secured her place in the quarterfinals after overcoming Swiss player Belina Bencic 7-5, 6-2 in a battle between the Top 10 players on Rod Laver Arena. Earlier No.5 seed Sabalenka had made the Round of 16 in Melbourne for the third straight season.

Two-time doubles Major champion from Minsk, Sabalaneka has worked a lot on her fitness and mental well-being before the tournament. She was delighted with the performance she put on throughout the weeks and credits the pre-season hard work for the result. In the post-match interview, she talked about how well she was able to keep her emotions in check.

“I am so happy with the way I played today. Negative emotions are not going to help and you just have to stay strong and believe no matter what. Happy with my mindset.” Sabalenka said. “Fitness is the key and worked hard in pre-season, and happy that everything is working” she added elaborating on her off-season work.

Sabalenka will now face the winner of the Donna Vekic or Linda Fruhvirtova contest in the quarterfinal.
