The Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) has been facing backlash from quite a few players over the condition of the balls, and they’re changing the balls every tournament. There have been ongoing complaints about the condition and change of tennis balls, with players complaining about injury concerns.

French women Harmony Tan and Alize Lim recently played a practice match with the balls of the upcoming 2024 and showed a before and after of the condition of the balls, proving their bad quality.

Before the two started their practice, Tan showed a picture of the tennis balls, and after their practice, the balls fluffed up at a ridiculous rate, reflecting on the ATP’s reputation.

This is not the first time that the ball has been an issue. Daniil Medvedev had lashed out at the ATP for the head balls used at the China Open. He lucidly said that the balls became extremely big after playing a few shots, which made it almost impossible to hit a winner with a fluffed-up ball. Many players have slammed the ATP about the condition of the tennis balls, and they continue to dismiss the point.

Stories of the problematic tennis balls used at tournaments continue to pile up, while the ATP remains unaffected by this.

With the 2024 Australian Open coming up, players are starting to worry about the kind of tennis balls going to be used, thus aching up the words of Carlos Alcaraz, who had previously said that it’s a different feeling coming into the tournaments due to the balls.

The Dunlop balls used in the Australian Open and other tournaments are known for generating a lot of topspin, which was criticized by the French tennis players Harmony Tan and Alize Lim.

Russian pro Daniil Medvedev also raised this issue last year when he lost in the third round of the tournament after heading into the match with wrist pain.

Along with him, even players like Taylor Fritz and Carlos Alcaraz have complained about feeling pain in their wrists due to the balls and urge the association to change it. The players hope that the issue on the ball will be resolved soon, but the ATP continues to remain unfazed despite the complaints piling up.
