Elina Svitolina recently revealed that her deep run into the Wimbledon Championships as a wildcard interfered with her plans to attend Harry Styles’ concert. If her win against Victoria Azarenka in the fourth round wasn’t satisfying enough, Svitolina was in for another pleasant surprise when the British singer invited her to attend his remaining concerts.

Following her impressive third-round win over American Sofia Kenin in straight sets, the former World No. 3 revealed that she was compelled to give away her tickets for the Harry Styles Vienna concert due to conflicting schedules.

The comeback mom was rewarded for her sacrifice when she came through in a feisty encounter with Belarusian Victoria Azarenka. Svitolina had to dig deep to claw out a win, her first against the Belarusian in six meetings. Set down and facing two match points, the Tokyo Olympics bronze medalist mounted a spirited comeback, egged on by a partisan crowd, to claim a 2-6, 6-4, 7-6(9) victory.

Svitolina logs her first career win against Azarenka

The 28-year-old had candidly revealed after her impressive Round of 32 wins that she had planned on attending British pop star Harry Styles’ “Love on Tour” Vienna concert but had to abort the plans to prepare for her upcoming fourth-round match. In her on-court interaction with Rishi Persad following her win over Azarenka, the Ukrainian said that she was a big fan of the pop icon and made a heart gesture.

The British singer promptly took note of Elina’s disappointment at having to miss his concert. In a warm exchange, Harry Styles took to Instagram to not only congratulate the wildcard entrant but also offer her the chance to attend any of his four upcoming concerts. Signing off, the singer wished her well for the rest of the tournament.

“Congratulations! We have four shows to go, you’re welcome at any of them. Good luck with the rest of the tournament,” Harry Styles said in his Instagram post.

Svitolina was quick to respond with a heart with hands emoji. The warm exchange delighted fans of both Svitolina and Styles.

In her upcoming quarterfinal match-up, Svitolina will face her most formidable opponent at the Championships, World No. 1 and top seed, Iga Swiatek. The Pole, who also like Svitolina saved a couple of match points to book her place in the last 8, will start as the favorite, but the Ukrainian is more than capable of pulling off a surprise win as she has shown ever since her comeback to the game of tennis.
