World No. 7 Carlos Alcaraz is currently the Tour leader for the most titles won having won 4 titles. He was recently tied at the top position by his childhood idol and countryman Rafael Nadal who won the 2022 French Open last week. Alcaraz matched Nadal’s multiple records this season including winning a Masters title and breaking into the Top-10.

Carlos was one of the leading contenders for the 2022 French Open but he found himself on the losing side in a 4-setter against Alexander Zverev in the quarter-finals. Nevertheless, it was a great run by the teenager who played some brilliant tennis throughout the tournament and in the Clay season as well where he is 20-2 at the moment.

Nadal and Alcaraz have met thrice so far with two of those meetings won by Nadal while Alcaraz won their clash in the 2022 Madrid Open which Alcaraz went on to win a couple of days later. Despite the successes of the teenager, his grandfather believes he shouldn’t be compared to the 22-time Grand Slam champion.

“You have to be very delicate when talking about Nadal because of how much he has achieved and continues to achieve. He is very good, the best, and I don’t think my grandson or anyone else is going to achieve as much as him, although there is no hiding that Carlos is doing a good job, but Nadal is Nadal,” said Carlos Alcaraz Lerma, grandfather of Carlitos, as per AS.

One can however not ignore the achievements of Carlitos and even his grandfather appreciated the route taken by his grandson having himself played tennis as an amateur and passed on the passion for the sport to his son and now his superstar grandson.

“I don’t know where he can go because this world is very difficult, but he is on the right track. It is something very big and, although it is true that since he was a child he was seen to have something, we did not think it was that big of a deal and not even his grandfather believes what he is achieving.

“My son was very good, although he did not have as many resources as my grandson has, who has turned out to be a phenomenon. I don’t know how far he can go, besides, tennis is a very difficult world and injuries can come, but the truth is that the kid is on the right track,” added Lerma.
