The 18 year old teen has stunned the world with his win in the Rio Open, Miami Open and Barcelona Open all in the same year and has reached a career high ranking of world no. 9 . He is also the heavy favorite to win the Roland Garros as well as the Madrid Open title, which will mark his fourth title of the year.
Martina Navratilova comments on Carlos Alcaraz
The Spaniard and 18-year-old is set to face World no. 1, Novak Djokovic, in the semi-finals of the tournament after beating his idol and fellow compatriot Rafael Nadal in the quarter-finals.
When Martina Navratilova was asked about her opinion on the Carlos Alcaraz and Novak Djokovic match, Navratilova said, “For me, Alcaraz a better version of Djokovic. He moves like Novak but he hits the ball better. More powerful than anything I’ve ever seen. He defies the laws of gravity on the court.”
The American said that she believes Alcaraz over Djokovic. This is not surprising as Alcaraz is hailed as the next generation’s greatest player after the ‘big 4’. Everyone has high expectations of him and should he win the Madrid open, it would be his fourth title of the year. But for now, the Spaniard has a hurdle to cross to reach the finals.
The heavy favorite of the year, the Spaniard is expected to achieve greater heights and earn not only his first grand slam ever, but also become world no. 1 one day.
With his speciality of drop shots and aggressive baseliner, the 18 year old is flexible enough to adjust according to the way the ball moves. Should he beat Djokovic and move to the finals, he will meet the winner of the match between Stefanos Tsitsipas and Alexander Zverev.
