Donald Trump and Serena Williams

23-time grand slam champion Serena Williams was blessed with a baby daughter in September 2017 and she then came back on the tour in 2018. Needless to say, it took her months to get her groove back as she aced her way up to the top once again. During the 2018 Wimbledon Championships, Serena was asked about her reaction to then-US President Donald Trump’s probable visit for the Wimbledon final.

Trump was set to arrive in the United Kingdom during the second week of Wimbledon for 4 days for political reasons. Trump’s obsession with tennis is well-known and hence there were speculations that the US President could visit the AELTC to watch the Wimbledon final.

On being asked about this after her Round of 16 win, Serena coldly said that the President has the right to do whatever he wants, and if wants to come, he was every right to do so. She hoped that she would be there playing in the final.

“I feel like he has the right to do whatever he wants to do,” Williams said after her fourth-round win over Evgeniya Rodina. “If he wants to come to a Wimbledon final, he has that right. I hope I’ll be there. I still have a lot of matches to win. For me, I can’t even think that far. I’m just thinking one at a time.”

Serena went on to play in the Wimbledon 2018 final where she lost to Angelique Kerber in straight sets.
