Diego Schwartzman crashed out of the Madrid Open in the second round after losing to Grigor Dimitrov 0-6, 3-6. The result cme as a shock for everyone as Schwartzman was in good form on clay and the red dirt being his favourite surface there were expectations from him but he simply fell flat against the Bulgarian.

During his stay in the Spanish capital, Schwartzman sat for an interview with AS where he touched upon several aspects. The Argentinian tennis star spoke about Rafael Nadal who has been the inspiration for several players coming out from the South American country. Schwartzman shared how Nadal outplayed him in training as he believes that the 21-time Grand Slam winner can win the Roland Garros if he manages to replicate his training sessions to his matches.

“He beat the crap out of me in the training,” Schwartzman revealed with a giggle. “The truth is that I do see him winning the Roland Garros, if he plays like he trains. This year he lost a match, against (Taylor) Fritz at the Indian Wells final. In his blood he already feels more like a winner than the rest, even though he has the humility off the field to see himself on par, I think he sees himself as a winner.”

Rafael Nadal has struggled with injuries all throughout his career but he has an unreal mentality as he comebacks every time his opponents think that he is down and out. Nadal has braved so much pain and injury concerns so Schwartzman feels it is not much concern for the Spanish legend as he thinks it gives Nadal wisdom to make a stronger comeback.

“He is used to being sidelined by injuries and not playing for a few months. So I think it gives him the wisdom to know how to come back and how to prepare. He knows how to do it and this year he has been at an even better level than the last few years of his career and I think he feels that way, so he is clearly the candidate on this dirt tour,” the Argentinian concluded.
