“He is helping him in a positive way, ” Rafael Nadal shares his thoughts on Toni Nadal coaching Felix Auger-Aliassime
Toni Nadal with Rafa and Felix respectively
Rafael Nadal is one of the biggest names in tennis history. He has won 21 grand slams and is among the most iconic athletes in any sport. He is one of the greatest players to have ever held the racquet, and it’s all due to his uncle and coach Toni Nadal. Toni shaped the young Rafa and nurtured him in order to help Rafa achieve his full potential.
Rafael Nadal is in the twilight of his career, even though he is as fierce and brutish as he was, age wears everyone down. So, Toni Nadal is now helping other players improve their game and help them achieve their full potential. Toni’s latest ward includes the world number 9, Felix Auger Aliassime.
Felix is an amazing talent. He has some edges to smooth out if Felix wants to enter the ATP top 5 and win some grand slams. He has performed admirably at big stages, but he lacks the mindset and a support system that Nadal got from his uncle. Toni will try to shape the winner in Felix and get him ready for the big stages.
Toni Nadal looks to offer his wisdom to Felix Auger-Aliassime.
Toni Nadal has always been with Rafa, but he after becoming the director of Rafael Nadal Academy, he had the opportunity of working with some other players as well and in this journey he was approached by Felix and his team to which he gave a trail run and decided to go forward with the challenge. Rafael Nadal on being asked about the topic said:
“First of all, he doesn’t have to ask me anything. He is my uncle. He gave me everything. If I’m a pro player is because of him. But you have to ask Felix on what he feels that Toni brings for him. I’m sure that he is helping him in a positive way. He is passionate, smart, experienced.”
Nadal doesn’t seem to mind that his uncle has decided to take up on a challenge to help Felix achieve great things. Though Toni is and will always be Nadal’s uncle, he is free to coach other talents.
Rafael Nadal has moved on to the second-round of the French Open 2022, and he would look for a fourteenth title at Phillipe-Chatrier.
