Popular Tennis analyst, Gill Gross clarified his reason to leave Rafael Nadal from the categories he drew among the most prominent players on the tour. The Spaniard is currently out of action because of the hip injury he suffered in the Australian Open. This was the reason he forgot to add the 22-time Grand Slam champion to his list.

Gross was ranking the top players on the circuit according to their recent performance. He mentioned some of the big names like Novak Djokovic, Carlos Alcaraz, and Stefanos Tsitsipas among others. He explained that he was not sure where to put Nadal because of his absence.

“I think there is a level 1. In level 1, there are Djokovic and Alcaraz. We could say that Djokovic may appear at a special level. Let Alcaraz play tennis before placing him there. Tsitsipas is in tier 2. I think he is alone in tier 2. Zverev is no longer here, Medvedev is not good at the moment,” “he said on his Youtube channel.

On Nadal, he clarified his stand. “Let me tell you right away that I don’t know where to put Nadal. I don’t include Nadal in all this. He is in a period of attention for me. He is not part of a category. Tier 3? A lot of players. I think Casper Ruud should be placed there. I think you should put Felix Auger-Aliassime in it,” he explained.

Spaniard’s career has been mired with an injury like no other player on the tour. Compared to his rivals Novak Djokovic and Roger Federer, Nadal has to leave so many Majors midway. Now continuing that unfortunate chapter, the current World No. 6 is once again forced to miss out on some important events after the latest injury.

He was scheduled to play in the ATP-250 event in Doha and the ATP-500 in Dubai. But, now Nadal has withdrawn from both of these tournaments continuing his injury woes. Nadal is also facing the risk of bowing out of the top 10 in the rankings after the diagnosis revealed six to eight months of the recovery period.

In the twilight phase of his career, Nadal is looking to stay as fresh as he can in the events he gets to participate injury-free. After Novak Djokovic ties the Grand Slam race, the French Open 2023 will be the biggest thing on the mind of Nadal where he will also celebrate his 37th birthday. Though there are speculations about the future of Nadal the 14-time champion in Paris will try to add another title there before taking some tough decision.
