Dominic Thiem is back from injury and is on the path to recovery. Currently, He is playing at the Gijón Open. He is focused and amazing to watch.
The past few years had been tough for him. In 2021 he suffered a wrist injury which led him out for the remainder of the season. In 2022, he came back but was again forced to withdraw because of new injuries and illness.
In an interview, he was candid about his form. When the interviewer cited the example of Rafael Nadal and the statement he gave earlier in Madrid. The Austrian more than agreed with it. He also declared Nadal an inspiration and his role model.
“Nadal said in Madrid that it was not the time to put pressure on him, but that he would return to the top. Is Rafa an inspiration to you for all her injuries and comebacks?” the interviewer asked.
“He is probably the best role model for this experience since he did it not only once, but four or five to come back from a long time of injury of six months or even more. And the form was always amazing. So it’s a great inspiration. And in Madrid, he was right. This was not the time to pressure me. But you have to start doing it because the pressure at the end helps you recover the good performances,” Thiem answered.

Dominic Thiem is looking ahead for a breakthrough tournament win once again
In 2020, Dominic Thiem gave his best tennis performance. He made it to the final of the Australian Open beating Rafael Nadal on the road to the Final but lost out to Novak Djokovic. Later, he won his first grand slam, i.e., the US Open.
In the very same year, he made it to the final round of the ATP Finals but lost to Daniil Medvedev. In the process, he also recorded his 300th win and secured the Third rank in the ATP Rankings. He also represented Austria in the ATP Cup.
The Austrian’s target is to secure a spot in the Top 100 by the end of the season. Currently, He is seeded at No.231. A victory in the Gijón Open will give a real boost to both his confidence and career.
