Stefanos Tsitsipás is the undisputed favourite on clay this season. A finalist at Roland Garros in 2021 and a double winner of the Masters 1000 of Monte-Carlo (2021-2022), the Greek, world number 5, appears to be the best equipped to offer himself his first Grand Slam title in Paris, on his favourite surface. Tennis specialists Justine Hennin, Patrick Mouratoglou, and Michael Llodra from France Televisions discussed how far Stefanos Tsitsipas could go in the next French Open.

Stefanos Tsitsipas has rediscovered his stride after benefiting from Rafael Nadal’s absence at the start of the clay season and Novak Djokovic’s return after a three-month layoff. He will be highly expected to win in Madrid and Rome after winning his second title in Monte Carlo. In view of that renowned coach Patrick Mouratoglou expressed, “He should arrive in shape at Roland. He did the right thing by winning the Monte Carlo tournament, like last year. We know that clay is a very good surface for him.”

Stefanos Tsitsipas successfully defended his title at the Monte-Carlo Masters to kick off the clay season. He defeated Fabio Fognini, Laslo Djere, Diego Schwartzman, Alexander Zverev, and Alejandro Davidovich Fokina on his way to the title. During the entire event, he only dropped one set, to Schwartzman in the quarterfinals. Tsitsipas then competed at the Barcelona Open, where he was the runner-up in 2021. He started off with a three-set win over Ilya Ivashka, then scored an easy win over Grigor Dimitrov in the third round. But the Greek fell to Carlos Alcaraz in the quarterfinals, marking his third consecutive loss against the teenager.

Tsitsipas has previously reached the final of the Madrid Open when he reached the title round in 2019. On that occasion, he was defeated in straight sets by Novak Djokovic. On clay, World No. 5 is a formidable opponent. He’s already had some strong performances on the surface this season, and he’ll like to keep it going in Spain’s capital.
