Novak Djokovic clinched his 7th Wimbledon title equaling the record with his childhood idol, the tennis legend Pete Sampras. This was his consecutive 4th title in a row at the SW19 defeating Nick Kyrgios in a thriller final match on 10th July 2022. This also marked his 21st singles Grand Slam title to his name, just one more to equal with Rafael Nadal, who has the record of most singles Grand Slam major titles to his name.
Currently, Djokovic is on cloud nine celebrating his win with his family and friends. This win came at the right time as he had to face a lot of criticism and had tough times when he had to be deported from Australia before the commencement of the Australian Open 2022 as he was not vaccinated and the Government had strict rules of being vaccinated to be able to play. Even after the win, he still faces a roadblock ahead in the US Open 2022 as the US Government is not keen on allowing players to play at the tournament until and unless they are vaccinated.

Djokovic had a very tough start to this year as his decision of not taking COVID-19 vaccination landed him into a lot of trouble which is still going on. After the Australian Open fiasco, now before the commencement of the US Open, he still is at the receiving end and people are not happy with his decision to not get vaccinated anytime soon.
Journalist Benjamin Butterworth, recently spoke at an interview, slamming the Serb’s continued refusal to get the vaccine which he believes puts ‘people at risk’. Butterworth went on to call Djokovic a ‘disgrace’. He further said, “The vaccine is essential if you want to defeat the virus and the position of Djokovic does not help”. He believes that, this sort of actions coming from such a famous personality who has fans all over the world and people follow him will let people’s lives at risk and he is not able to understand the level of risk involved in it.
Novak Djokovic is hopeful that the US Government gives a decision in his favor so that he gets a chance to participate and gets a shot to clinch his 22nd Grand Slam title equaling Rafael Nadal‘s record of 22 major titles.
