Novak Djokovic’s former coach, Boris Becker, was found guilty of hiding £2.5 million in assets and loans in a bankruptcy fraud case last year and he served eight months of his two-and-a-half-year sentence in the United Kingdom. He was released from prison in December 2022 and deported to Germany.

After being released, he finally got his first coaching job just recently, in 2023. An out-of-form Holger Rune appointed German as his new coach and got instant results. Thanks to the coaching of Boris Becker, the youngster achieved a meteoric improvement in his performance and played brilliantly at the 2023 ATP Finals. As a result, he has decided to extend his contract with Becker.

Talking about his coach’s sentence, Holger Rune said that Boris Becker is a great man and that he has a good heart. The Danish said that he’s a great coach and does not need an opinion on whatever he does off the court.

Are people in tennis worried that he was convicted? I don't know. I know many players who really like him. So do I. Whatever he's doing off the court, I don't need to have an opinion on that because I hired him to coach me, not to do anything else.

The problem with Boris Becker’s prison sentence is that he is banned from traveling to the UK for ten years. In order to enter Wimbledon, he will have to appeal against his statement. Only then will he be able to join Rune’s Wimbledon entourage.

Boris Becker has a big spat with Nick Kyrgios

Australian tennis player Nick Kyrgios is pretty famous for getting into controversies very frequently. In a recent interview with The Athletic, he claimed that players from decades gone by would not stand a chance against modern-day players, reasoning that the game was very slow in the past. According to Kyrgios, Novak Djokovic would have ‘eaten alive’ players like Boris Becker and Pete Sampras at their peak any day.

Serve and volley, to do it all the time now, you need to be serving 220, because if you serve anything less than 220, Djokovic eats you alive

However, Becker was not having any of it. He gave the Australian a savage reply on X, saying that he should not comment on a sport that he apparently hates.

Fact-check Nick has never won a major championship as a player or coach... so where is any credibility coming from? Speak to your @OnlyFans about many things but [not] tennis!

When Becker finally questioned Kyrgios’s credibility, the Australian too lost his cool, bringing up personal attacks against Becker. Kyrgios also sought the example of Alexander Zverev and Patrick Mouratoglou, asking Becker if they deserved credibility under his eyes. Recently, Becker put all the fight to rest, tweeting about the speedy recovery of the Australian.
