World No.4 Holger Rune who had been struggling with a back injury ever since he began the clay-court season seems to have finally got it fixed as the Dane readies himself to return on the tour for the Asian swing starting with China Open. Rune, who was knocked out of the 2023 US Open in the first round itself, shared an update on his recovery and comeback on social media.
Rune pulled out of the 2023 Laver Cup where he was supposed to represent Team Europe. The Dane cited a treatment on his back as the reason behind it. Nevertheless, the teen tennis sensation has returned on the tour after spending some quality time with his family in Denmark and Mexico.
Holger Rune shared snaps from his family vacation and revealed that he is ready to pick up the racket again. “A little bit of everything from this week. Good recovery and feeling healthy again. Thank you to everyone helping me this week to get back on track. Now off to China, looking forward,” wrote Rune while sharing pictures from his vacation.
Notably, Holger Rune had a pinched nerve in the fifth lumbar vertebra in his spine since the clay-court season. The Dane has revealed about the injury during the Davis Cup. “I know it can be fixed and I get to spend my time fixing it now,” he had said (to Danish TV).

Holger Rune lands in China for a busy week ahead
Holger Rune has landed in China for the ATP 500 tournament set to begin in a couple of days. The 20-year-old shared a picture of him practicing at the Diamond court at the Beijing Olympic Green Tennis Center.

The Dane is seeded third in the ATP 500 tournament. Spanish tennis ace Carlos Alcaraz and Daniil Medvedev are the players ahead of Rune at the China Open. As the draws were released on Tuesday, the Dane will open his campaign against Felix Auger-Aliassime. The two players have the head-to-head record leveled at 1-1. However, both of them have been out of touch as of late.
But Aliassime, having played at the Laver Cup has some match practice in his bag while Rune will be returning to action after a while. To make matters worse, the 20-year-old is coming into the tournament after losing seven matches on the trot. It started with the defeat at the Wimbledon quarterfinals, against Alcaraz. Now, it is to be seen if the Dane can end this streak or if it gets worse.
