World No.10 Holger Rune has given an update on his physical status and spoke about what motivates him in an individual sport like tennis. The 19-year-old was speaking in a press conference after securing his passage to the fourth round of the 2023 Australian Open.

Rune had suffered a fall at the beginning of the second set and twisted his ankle during the third-round clash. He had to take a medical timeout to deal with the injury scare. He went on to finish the match in under two hours and win. In the press conference, Rune assured those present that his injury wasn’t all that bad. “I fell in the beginning of the second set, but yeah, it wasn’t too bad. Didn’t twist. I fell directly over. mean, I was able to play full. The third set, of course, I was a bit worried what happened, but I saw the slow motion after the match. Nothing dangerous. Didn’t check it yet, but I was able to play.”

“I relaxed a lot more because I was a bit afraid, but honestly I played very good after it happened. So I’m feeling hopeful,” Rune said. He said he spoke to the doctor about the injury and was given the all-clear by him, and he felt calmer with that feedback. Rune was able to win his match despite the injury scare. He bested Ugo Humbert 6-4,6-2,7-6(7) to advance to the fourth round of the Australian Open.

He will have to beat fifth seed Andrey Rublev to advance to the quarterfinals. The highly anticipated clash is the talk of the town. The match is the best clash of the fourth round, and everyone expects one of these players to challenge Novak Djokovic to the title. With so many of the seeded players crashing out by this stage, one of Rublev or Rune will likely have a shot at winning their first Grand Slam tournament.

Rune was asked an interesting question at the press conference. The 19-year-old was quizzed on what motivates him and gives him the energy he showcases during a match. Rune admitted that his energy on the court differs from off the court, where he is often tired.

He then said, “Well, I think passion, to be honest, because I have so much passion to play matches, to compete. To be in this kind of tournament is really exciting, so I think all of this together is bringing me so much energy, and basically I love to play tennis, and to play tennis in this event is what I’ve been dreaming about since I was a little kid, so I’m leaving it all out.” He said that he is constantly improving things every day, and it is a long process to get to a top-level physically and mentally.

Rune hopes to accelerate his learning before the upcoming fourth-round clash. He will need to be at his best to beat Rublev. He also has a chance of challenging for the title with a lot of favorites out of the tournament.
