Mark Petchey is convinced that Holger Rune needs to figure things out following his split with coach Boris Becker a few weeks ago. Boris Becker announced that he was no longer continuing the collaboration with Rune, citing a lack of time.

Holger Rune, who is rated as one of the rising stars of the new generation of players, is now under scrutiny following the split of Severin Luthi and Boris Becker in just days.

The Dane began the collaboration with Becker after depleting form, but that couldn’t change after two and a half months. British tennis legend Mark Petchey dubbed the reason behind the split a ‘myth‘ due to the lack of a proper explanation as to what led to it.

As for Holger Rune, that's just bizarre, I mean, it's, you know, to get those guys on board, that's not enough time. I mean, Boris Becker couldn't even travel to Australia for known reasons. For, me I don't I don't really understand.
Mark Petchey said via the Tennis Channel Inside-In podcast

He further added that things did not work out well between the duo, and Rune needs to put in more work to get his house in order.

It certainly wasn't time, Let's be honest. That was true. You know, that was a myth, you know, whatever that mirage was that they said they didn't have the time. Yeah. The fact was it? It hasn't worked and Holger Rune needs to figure it out.
Continuing further, he added

Notably, Holger Rune is still searching for a title since his 2023 BMW Munich title, which was his only silverware that year. Perhaps, with the right coach, he can win more.

There's not enough time for you as a coach, to really have an impact on a player's career. Some of the ideas that you have, at the start of a career, starting the coaching liaison will die on the vine, you will have ideas that you think work and you try, but they don't work and they could cause a bit more doubt.

The Dane began the season well after reaching the Brisbane International Final but unfortunately lost the title to Grigor Dimitrov. However, since then, the 20-year-old has struggled to maintain the level.

He exited the Australian Open in the second round and reached the semifinals at the Open Sud de France. He was forced to retire due to an injury but was losing 3-6, 1-4 to Borna Coric.

At the Rotterdam Open, he lost to Aleksandr Schevchenko in the second round after a poor outing in the Ultimate Tennis Showdown in Oslo.
