World No. 7 Holger Rune has gone back to his former coach Patrick Mouratoglou. The two had initially tried an arrangement toward the end of October 2022 which was later extended.
The extension was a result of a good string of results for the Dane and Mouratoglou’s availability given Simona Halep‘s doping scandal. The coach was later directly accused by fans and the Romanian of ruining her career as the mixing of supplements took place in his academy.

Rune and Mouratoglou worked together for six months till April 2023 before going different ways. Ego clashes within the camp, especially between Mouratoglou and old coach Lars Christensen were highlighted by Rune’s mother Aneke.
The Dane youngster then hired German great Boris Becker as his full-time coach. He also brought in Roger Federer‘s former coach Severin Luthi to surround himself with great tennis minds. But it became a case of too many cooks spoiling the broth as results didn’t come.
After his early exit at the 2024 Australian Open, Luthi was let go. Becker announced his exit shortly afterward justifying his reasons. To Rune’s good fortune, the change came very early in the season. To not risk any damage, the former World No. 4 has gone back to the French coach.
I am excited to resume working with Patrick. With him, I have achieved some of the greatest triumphs of my career so far, and I can’t wait for us to chase the next major titles together.Said Rune in a statement as per Tennis Majors.
Moving ahead, we have had good talks on how our collaboration should unfold, and we have agreed on a strong setup that creates the best conditions for my performance.Added the Dane.
Patrick Mouratoglou helped Holger Rune to his biggest career title to date
Rune had a good run in October 2022, possibly the best of his short career so far. He reached three continuous finals starting in Stockholm, Basel, and then Bercy. He lost only in Basel winning the other two.

The win in the 2022 Paris Masters remains the biggest title of Rune’s young career. He achieved it in some style defeating defending champ Novak Djokovic in the finals. He had saved three match points in the heated clash of the opening round against Stan Wawrinka in a big week for him.
Following this run, he could not reach any more finals till the clay season began in 2023. But Mouratoglou had been let go by then. With a full-time role now on offer, it could start another turnaround for the 20-year-old who is 8-4 for the season so far.
