Rennae Stubbs‘s tweet has stirred rumors of a collaboration with Holger Rune, just a day after his split with head coach Boris Becker. The Australian former tennis player was Serena Williams‘s coach in 2022, a few months before the 23-time Grand Slam title champion retired.

Holger Rune has been in the news since his early exit at the Australian Open. The Dane split with coach Severin Luthi after two and a half months of collaboration, and yesterday (February 6, 2024), Boris Becker stepped down from his coaching team.

However, speculations about who will be his next coach stirred on social media after Stubbs revealed that she is interested in taking the opportunity to coach the youngster. With that being said, there is no denying that Rune, who has yet to win a title since June last year, is in need of fresh ideas.

Holger Rune I have some time up my sleeve.

In less than a year, Rune has parted ways with three coaches for no tangible reasons. In May 2023, he parted ways with Patrick Mourataglou after six months, with a lack of clarity on the decision.

In the space of one week, two experienced coaches, Severin Luthi, and Boris Becker, have also left the young Danish. Which makes it obvious that something is wrong, and perhaps the coaches not saying anything about what truly transpired is a signal to other coaches.

Boris Becker announces his split with Holger Rune

In a rather shocking turn of events, Boris Becker has decided to step down as Holger Rune’s head coach after four and a half months of partnership. The six-time Grand Slam winner revealed that he couldn’t give Holger Rune what he needed.

Rune turned to the former tennis legend in October after a series of poor performances, believing that the former Novak Djokovic coach would turn the tide for him. However, the young Dane is yet to win a single title in the past six months.

The 20-year-old crashed out of the Australian Open in the second round after succumbing to defeat against Arthur Cazaux, leading Boris to describe Rune as a rough diamond after the game.

I would like to inform you that I will step down as the head coach of Holger Rune with immediate effect. We started this partnership with the initial goal to reach the ATP Finals end of last year but moving forward I realised that in order for this to be successful, I would need to be available for Holger much more than I can. I wish him only the very best and I’m always going to be his n.1 fan. I truly appreciated this journey together. BB.

With undeniable talent, Rune is in need of guidance, and with three coaches leaving in less than a year, the Dane has to get his house in order as quickly as possible, or tennis fans may never see his best.
