World No. 6 Holger Rune has meteorically risen through the men’s rankings. After a decent year, Rune has fallen two ranks and will look to reach new heights next season. The promising player from Denmark is set to receive coaching from none other than the legendary Boris Becker. It has been made official that the former German player will be coaching Rune.

Holger is a rough diamond that needs polishing. I like his emotional outbursts. I’ve already coached a player who was sometimes not completely at his wits on the court: Novak Djokovic. But that’s allowed,” reveals Boris in an interview on Eurosports. Earlier this week, Rune acknowledged the German for the joint practice session and was glad to be a part of it.

Boris Becker has been known for coaching one of the greatest players of all time, Novak Djokovic, from 2013 to 2016, during which the Serb won six Grand Slams. “I love tennis, and if one of the best 20-year-olds in the world asks me if I would like to coach him, anyone who says no doesn’t have much to do with the sport,” said the German in the interview. Becker himself has won six Grand Slams, and his expertise may produce a new Rune next season.

Holger Rune continues his run of early exits

Danish player Holger Rune continues his bad streak of early exits. After his first-round exit at the US Open, the World No. 6 headed into Asia to redeem himself but unfortunately lost in his second match at the China Open and followed that with a first-round exit at the Shanghai Masters. Rune also headed into the Stockholm Open as the defending champion and No. 1 seed. Unfortunately, the 20-year-old lost in the first round against Miomir Kecmanovic in two straight sets.

The match was an exciting one between the No. 1 seed and Serbia’s Miomir, who resembled Novak Djokovic. Both players gave it their all in the first set, which went on to the tiebreak.

However, the Serb managed to steal the set and back it up with some phenomenal shots in the second set, which saw him through to the next round. This was a huge upset early in the tournament. However, with a new coach, there should be some improvement since his consecutive sets of early exits. Fans and tennis enthusiasts will be monitoring the youngster and the effect Boris has on him.
