Danish tennis player Holger Rune parted ways with coach Patrick Mouratoglou a couple of weeks ago. The French coach did not have good relations with Rune’s longtime coach Lars Christensen and the tension between them was having a visible negative impact on Holger Rune’s performance as well. Thus, the youngster decided to part ways with them and appointed Boris Becker as his new coach.
Despite parting ways, Mouratoglou is seemingly on good terms with his former accomplice. In a recent interview with Tennis365, the Frenchman claimed that the Dane has it in him to become the World No. 1 in days to come and he showed signs of that when he took on Novak Djokovic in the 2023 Paris Masters as well. Despite not being in his best form, the youngster gave the Serb tough competition.

When he’s at his best, he’s playing in the top five or top three in the world and he has huge, huge potential. He's one of three or four guys who can be No. 1 in the next few years. A lot of things will have to fall into place for that to happen, but he can do it. The famed coach further continued:
He played wonderfully in Paris. He played Novak Djokovic and it was close, so I think he's an incredible player. He also has a very strong personality that you may like or dislike but all you can say is that he is certainly very interesting to watch.
Holger Rune is making a comeback with Boris Becker
Rune is widely regarded as one of the most talented next-gen players currently alongside Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner. However, the Danish player went through a rough patch in the mid-summer of this year. After the 2023 Wimbledon Open, Rune faced a major drop in his performance and went on to lose 10 out of 11 matches.

It seems like he is making progress after appointing Boris Becker as his coach. He made it to the semifinals of the Swiss Indoors and quarterfinals of the Paris Masters, where he came very close to beating Novak Djokovic. Most importantly, the Danish seems to have gotten his fighting spirit back.
Rune will hope to keep improving as he starts his campaign in the 2023 ATP Finals. He has been drawn into the Green Group alongside Novak Djokovic, Jannik Sinner, and Stefanos Tsitsipas. He will face Novak Djokovic in his first match of the tournament on 13th November.
