World No. 7 Carlos Alcaraz has had a fantastic season so far as he leads the ATP Tour for the most titles won so far. With two Masters titles to his name in Miami and Madrid along with the two ATP-500 titles in Rio and Barcelona, Alcaraz is tied with his childhood idol Rafael Nadal for the most titles won.

The youngster had a brilliant Clay season winning 20 of the 22 matches he played on the surface. He also made it to the quarter-finals of the 2022 French Open. Despite being a title contender, considering he had just turned 19 years old, it was a great result for the teenager who would have taken important lessons from his run this year in Paris.

As the focus of the Tour shifts to the grasscourt season, Alcaraz was also scheduled to try his luck on the turf. With the main goal being the 2022 Wimbledon Championships, the teen had planned to play the 2022 Queen’s Club Championships, an ATP-500 event, as a warmup tournament for the Grand Slam but his preparations will be cut short due to an injury.

“As u all know, I was super excited to play at @QueensTennis but a slight elbow issue means I can’t! I hope to be there in 2023… see u all in the UK in a few days!” tweeted Alcaraz announcing his withdrawal. He had also skipped the 2022 Rome Masters due to an ankle injury and this elbow injury will see him miss his second tournament of the season due to an injury.

With the withdrawal from the Queen’s Club, Alcaraz will reach the 2022 Wimbledon Championships with a 1-1 career record on the surface. He had defeated Yasutaka Uchiyama in a 5-setter clash in the first round of the 2021 Wimbledon Championships, a win on his surface debut but then lost in straight-sets to Daniil Medvedev in the second round.

While Carlos still gets a week between the tournament in Queen’s Club and Wimbledon as two ATP-250 events are planned in Mallorca and Eastbourne, it is unlikely that he will make a late call to participate in them via a wildcard as the entry lists are unlikely to have him as he had committed to only the Queen’s Club event.
