Croatian tennis player Donna Vekic recently denied Hubert Hurkacz entry into one of the courts in Miami for practice for a special reason and the incident has underlined the off-court chemistry and friendship between the two. Both Vekic and Hurkacz are currently at the Miami Tennis Garden as the 2024 Miami Open is set to commence in a few days.
The situation took place in one of the courts in Miami, where both Donna Vekic and Hubert Hurkacz went to practice. Vekic did not allow the Polish international to enter the court, as a few women were having a light tennis session there.
She posted a video of the same on her Instagram story with the caption, “Sorry, @hubthurkacz, it’s ladies morning.” Vekic could even be heard chuckling in the video as Hurkacz waited outside the court as the ‘ladies’ practiced.
Donna Vekic’s campaign in the Miami Open starts tomorrow. She will be facing Czech tennis player Karolina Pliskova in the very first round. She has been placed in the first half of the draw that also has Iga Swiatek. Vekic will face Ekaterina Alexandrova if she manages to defeat Pliskova in the first round. If she manages to win that match, she will face either Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova or Shelby Rogers.
Vekic’s recent exploits have just been decent. She lost to Pavlyuchenkova in the first round of the 2024 Australian Open. She then got eliminated in the first round of the Qatar Open and Round of 16 of the Dubai Tennis Championships. Most recently, she lost to Caroline Wozniacki in the first round of the 2024 Indian Wells Masters.
Hubert Hurkacz’s chances at the 2024 Miami Open
Compared to Donna Vekic, Hubert Hurkacz has been in a much better form lately. In fact, apart from his second-round loss against Gael Monfils in the 2024 Indian Wells, the Pole has performed well in almost all the other tournaments in 2024 so far.
His most commendable performance so far this year came in the Australian Open, where he reached the quarterfinals. He gave tough competition to Daniil Medvedev in the quarters but unfortunately crashed out of the tournament after a 5-set thriller.
Hurkacz also recently reached the quarterfinals of the Dubai Tennis Championships where he lost to Ugo Humbert. He will not have to play in the first round of the 2024 Miami Open having received direct advancement to the second round. Thus, he has time to relax and prepare himself until March 22.
