British tennis sensation Emma Raducanu has started her 2023 season at the ASB Classics in Auckland. In the first clash of the year, she defeated Linda Fruhvirtova by 4-6, 6-4, 6-2. More than the opponent it was the weather that bothered Raducanu, due to which the match was halted a couple of times. 

Emma Raducanu is returning to the 2023 season after poor returns last year. The win over Fruhvirtova will definitely boost the confidence of the 2021 US Open winner looking to make a strong comeback. Raducanu talked to the media after the match about her performance and the weather.

The 20-year-old came from one set behind to overcome her Czech opponent ranked 79th in the world. After the first set Raducanu turned the game around with her tough performance and outdid Fruhvirtova to register a convincing win.

The match was interrupted by rain a couple of times. In a post-match interview, she talked about her performance. “I don’t what time is it anymore,” she said jokingly as the match lasted around four hours. Raduncau also thanked the fans for their support. 

“What a battle. Linda is such a great young player and it was a different dynamic for me because usually, I’m the younger one. Going into this match she is and she’s going to be up there for sure, she already is,” she expressed further. Raducanu will next lock horns with Slovak Viktoria Kuzmova

What to expect from Emma Raducanu in the 2023 season

British tennis star Emma Raducanu has been one of the most talked about youngsters in the last couple of years. First, she became the subject of media frenzy and constant applause after winning the 2021 US Open. Later in 2022, when Raducanu could not keep up with the expectations due to a drop in performance and an injury, the media narrative around her changed completely.  

“The other things around me have changed a lot. So I’ve become extremely busy… that’s probably the biggest thing. I’m probably more in the public eye, but it comes with the territory and I wouldn’t change it for what happened,” Raducanu said about that earlier.

As the new season of tennis has started in Australia, the 20-year-old is looking to start fresh. She announced her arrival with a comfortable win at the ASB Classics in Auckland. As the season progresses, current No. 78 will look to redeem herself and get back into the top 10 of the ranking. Another major win will be cherry on the top.
