Rafael Nadal‘s quest to complete a calendar slam came to a heartbreaking end after he was forced to withdraw from his semifinal clash against Nick Kyrgios at Wimbledon 2022. Nadal developed an abdominal tear in the quarterfinal against Taylor Fritz but somehow completed the match. He then decided it was best for him to not compete in the semifinal as it would’ve aggravated the injury.

Nadal is 19-0 in grand slams this year and is having a dream season but he particularly hasn’t been lucky with injuries. First a hairline rib fracture, then his foot injury, and now an abdominal tear. Last year at the Australian Open, Nadal’s arch-nemesis Novak Djokovic too suffered a similar injury. During one of his matches against Fritz, Djokovic developed the injury and had to play the entire tournament with it.

Speaking to Serbian reporters after his semifinal win, Djokovic revealed how difficult it was for him to play the tournament which he eventually won. Djokovic said that everything about that specific tournament is recorded and people will be able to see it in his documentary.

‘I can say that it was extremely difficult’: Novak Djokovic on playing with an injury

He revealed that he drank every painkiller there is in this world and tried all sorts of therapy and treatment. “At the time, I recorded everything that was happening, if the aim of your question was whether some people believed that it was possible to play with that kind of injury – I can say that it was extremely difficult,” he said.

“I drank every painkiller there is in this world, had every possible therapy and treatment, and was hooked up to machines – as I said earlier, you will be able to see everything in that documentary. People can watch and then they can form an opinion,” he revealed.

Djokovic also disclosed that his documentary is currently being edited and the premiere for the same will be after the US Open- in October or November.
