“I think I can be the champion. I know it will be very difficult because there are a lot of players who have the ability to do it, but I will face every match at 100%, ready to keep my full concentration at all times. It will be very important for me to pass the first two games without suffering, because as I still have little experience.

“It is not a good idea to spend too many hours on the court and accumulate wear. physical and mental. You need a great physique to win a Grand Slam and even if I still lack experience in five sets, I have the inner fire to win,” said Rune.

With a rather heavy field in Adelaide which is an ATP-250 event, Holger Rune is seeded 5th in the draw. He takes on Yoshihito Nishioka in the opener, their first-ever Tour level meeting. Going by the seedings, he might face Felix Auger-Aliassime in the quarter-finals followed by a meeting with 4th-seeded Andrey Rublev in the semi-finals.

The title clash could be against top-seeded Novak Djokovic, a repeat of the 2022 Paris Masters finals. But with the likes of Andy Murray, Jannik Sinner, Denis Shapovalov, and many others present in the draw, it won’t be a cakewalk for the World No. 10. However, it will serve as great practice for him for the Grand Slam where many more top-class players will compete.
