Former Wimbledon champion, Marion Bartoli, criticized world No. 4, Casper Ruud, after his early exit from the recent Australian Open. It was indeed a below-par performance from the second seed in the tournament. Ruud came into the tournament in good form, having reached the finals of both the US Open and the ATP Tour.
He was one of the title contenders, with Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic not up to their marks before the commencement of the Major. Fans expected him to win his first Grand Slam title at Melbourne Park. However, things went extremely badly for the Norwegian player as he took an early exit from the Australian Open in the second round. He lost against an unseeded, Jenson Brooksby and shocked the entire tennis world.
Speaking about his shocking result and early exit, former Wimbledon champion, Marion Bartoli said “He had no time to get ready for it. When you’re already a Grand Slam finalist on two occasions, between Roland-Garros and the US Open, you are hoping to win a Grand Slam, that’s the next step. That goes without saying. You just accept you have no pre-season and zero chance at the Australian Open? I just don’t understand that thinking process. If he’s fine with it, OK.”
Just like the rest of the world, she too expected more from him. She felt that his pre-tournament preparation was not up to the mark and he could have planned it much better.

Casper Ruud drops in the ATP rankings after his early exit from the Australian Open 2023
The Norwegian player was ranked third in the world at the beginning of the year based on his last year performance. Especially towards the end of the year, he really made his mark and showed some excellent consistency in the results. He was the runner-up in the last two big tournaments of the year, the U.S. Open and the ATP Finals.
But he couldn’t maintain his momentum and form from last year and fell to the unseeded American. It was one of the early upsets of the tournament, and he slipped down to No. 4 in the ATP rankings. Novak Djokovic claimed the top ranking after his record-breaking 22nd Grand Slam title.
However, fans are expecting Casper to come back strong and rise in the rankings. He would be aware of his situation and work on his form.
