Nick Kyrgios and Novak Djokovic

Novak Djokovic asserted his dominance on centre court once again and won his 7th Wimbledon title by beating Nick Kyrgios in the final of the 2022 Wimbledon Championships. Djokovic won the match in four sets 4-6,6-3,6-4,7-6(3) to win his 4th consecutive match. This was Djokovic’s 21st major title and with this, he has overtaken Roger Federer and is just one major shy of Rafael Nadal’s tally of 22 majors.

Djokovic was always the favorite going into the final but was under immense pressure after he lost the first set. Kyrgios was playing some amazing tennis and was dictating the pace of the match with his flawless serve. But Djokovic managed to stay calm and used all his years of experience to come back against the odds and win the match.

The build-up before the match was much about the newly-found bromance between Djokovic and Kyrgios on account of their bad past. The two share a bad history but after Kyrgios took a stand for Djokovic at the Australian Open earlier this year, the two have gelled up pretty well. The two even engaged in a fun social media talk ahead of the final.

Djokovic spoke about Kyrgios in the trophy presentation and told Nick that he’ll be back in many more finals. He lauded him for a great tournament and spoke about how amazing Nick’s talent is.

“Nick, you’ll be back. Not just in Wimbledon but in many finals. You showed why you are one of the best players in the world. Congrats to you and your team. I wish you all the best, man. I really think you are an amazing talent,” he said.

Djokovic also joked that he never thought he’d say so many nice things about Kyrgios. He then declared the bromance official and toasted for dinner and drinks with him.

“I never thought I’m going to say so many nice things about you, considering the relationship! OK, it’s officially a bromance! Hopefully, this is the start of a wonderful friendship. Let’s start with dinner and drinks and we will see,” he said.
