‘I wanted to play her and I got my wish,’ Bianca Andreescu pumped up for Emma Raducanu clash in Rome, reminisces her US Open triumph

Emma Raducanu and Bianca Andreescu

In the battle of US Open champions, Bianca Andreescu will face Emma Raducanu in the first round of the 2022 Italian Open. The match is poised to be a great one. Raducanu has a lot of potential to do well on clay given her slicing abilities but is yet to create an impact. She made it to the quarterfinals of the Stuttgart Open but then bowed out of the Round of 16 in Madrid.

There are a lot of similarities between Raducanu and Andreescu. Both of them won their maiden grand slam at Flushing Meadows as teenagers and became overnight sensations. And after their respective triumphs, they weren’t able to live up to what was expected of them due to various reasons.

Bianca spoke about watching Raducanu winning the US Open last year. She said that she was happy to see her win the US Open and could relate with her as she also won the tournament around the same age as Raducanu did. She also mentioned Leylah Fernandez reaching the US Open final. She also mentioned that she wanted to play Emma for a long time and now she’s getting her wish fulfilled.

“I’ve thought about the parallels, but I don’t go crazy. It’s just a really weird coincidence. I watched her win the US Open, and I was really happy for her because I won it basically around her age,” she said.

“Obviously, she was playing a Canadian, so that was really nice too. She’s a really great player, so I’m expecting a really good match. I remember saying, I want to play her – and it looks like I got my wish.”
