Serena Williams, one of the best female athletes of all time, has played a major role in revolutionizing women’s tennis and has inspired millions of people in her glorious and illustrious career of more than three decades. She is in the last phase of her tennis career and will bid adieu to her professional journey at the US Open in front of her country people. She has been a fierce player and has dominated women’s tennis by winning 23 singles Grand Slam titles, her last title win being at the Australian Open in 2017.

She returned to the women’s circuit in the grasscourt season after a hiatus of one year. She was looking for a strong comeback at the 2022 Wimbledon Championship after receiving a wild-card entry but her stint was short-lived owing to her first-round exit to France’s Harmony Tan. She began strongly at the Western & Southern Open winning the first round but soon was defeated in the second round by Belinda Bencic. She registered her third loss after her comeback at the Cincinnati Open losing in the first round to the young Brit Emma Raducanu in straight sets.

Meghan Markle, the Duchess of Sussex, is good friends with Serena Williams who he has proved time and again by being present at the player’s box during her important matches to support the American. They both first met at a Super Bowl party in 2010 and have shared great camaraderie since then.

On the first episode of Markle’s new podcast show titled ‘Archetypes, the Duchess revealed that she was aware of Serena’s retirement decision but had to keep it under the wraps till her friend made any official announcement. She kept it a secret owing to their great friendship and she did not want to break her friendship over any trust issues. She said “Now, when we originally recorded this conversation, the news of Serena’s evolution away from tennis wasn’t yet public. I knew about her plans – as you’ll soon hear – but Serena and I couldn’t quite talk openly about it in this type of forum. She’s my friend, I wasn’t gonna betray that trust.

Serena’s friendship with the Duchess has been under the radar since the time when the 23-time singles Grand Slam champion denied her relationship with Markle and revealed the Duchess of Sussex is merely just being an acquaintance of hers.
