World No. 68 Andy Murray and World no. 78 Nick Kyrgios are set to clash in the semi-finals of the 2022 Stuttgart Open with both players looking for their first title of the season. While Murray did manage to reach a final earlier in the season, Kyrgios is yet to cross the semi-final hurdle this season.
Kyrgios and Murray have shared a good bond over the years and have shown mutual admiration for each other. This will be the seventh meeting between them and their first since 2018, the only time Nick won a match against Murray as the Brit had won their first five meetings not losing a single set during those.

Coming into the match, Kyrgios had an early wrap to his quarter-final clash as Marton Fucsovics retired in the second set with Nick leading 3-0 having captured the first set. He had earlier defeated Jiri Lehecka in straight-sets and then won against Nikoloz Basilashvili in 3-sets. Murray moves into the semis on the back of three consecutive straight-set wins over Christopher O’Connell in the first round, Alexander Bublik in the second round and top-seed Stefanos Tsitsipas in the last-8.
“Andy is one of my best friends on the tour and obviously one of the greatest players of all time. I can’t wait to face him. I will try to disrupt him because I know he will be 100% focused,” said Kyrgios as reported by welovetennis ahead of their semi-final clash, marking the first time the two will fight for a spot in the finals.
