With every match, Denmark’s Holger Rune is becoming a force to be reckoned with. The teenager will be facing Botic van de Zandschulp in his first ever ATP finals at the Bavarian International Tennis Championships in a few hours. Before the biggest game of his short career, Rune opens up about his aspirations, the areas he needs to improve and much more.
Despite being a teenager, Rune plays with great maturity. His game awareness and strategies are always on point as he is continuously looking to improve on different areas of his game. The 19-year-old has huge aspirations as he believes that he can be the next big thing in tennis. “I won’t be satisfied until I am the No 1 player in the world,” Rune said in his interview with Tennis Majors.
Currently ranked 70 in the World, Holger Rune aims to break into the top 25 but he understands that he needs to take small steps and break into the top 50 before taking the deep dive. “I want to break into the top 25, but small steps first, I want to enter the top 50 first. I am not far, but it takes some work. I am ready,” Rune concluded.
Holger Rune seeks more composure in pressure situations

Holger Rune is aware of the areas he needs to improve. He wants to be more composed under pressure and keep a cool head in crunch situations. He shares how he cannot be giving away free points just because he is under pressure or something else is going on in his head. “I need to be cooler under pressure, I can’t allow myself to lose my head. I am really working on that because on the Tour you have to be there on every point, you can’t just give away free points because you are angry,” Rune added.
The Danish teenager feels that he is headed in the right direction and feels that gaining a little more composure will surely help him in his journey to the top. “I have to learn how to remain composed, to stay in the moment and be focused. I know that there is only one way to go up, I feel I am heading in the right direction. It is a lot of hard work day in and day out, but if it was easy, then everybody would do it,” concluded the youngster who will be featuring in his first ATP Finals in Munich.
