Serena Williams, the 40-year-old American professional is a sporting icon across the globe, with millions of fans that include many athletes as well, Williams has had an influence over tennis like none other. With 23 grand slam titles to her name, Williams has etched her name in the history books among the elites of the sport.
Serena Williams recently announced her retirement from professionally playing tennis, Serena announced that she would be calling it quits after competing at the US Open, the news of her eventual retirement left millions across the globe heartbroken and emotional and many sporting stars paid their tributes to the American icon.

Martina Navratilova posts an interesting tweet paying homage to Serena Williams
Serena Williams finally retired from professionally playing tennis, she started off her US Open campaign with two back-to-back wins in the first two rounds as she beat Danka Kovinic and Anett Kontaveit to make her way into the third round of the tournament. Serena was bested by Ajla Tomljanovic in the third round of the event as she bowed out of the US Open.
Many athletes paid homage to the retiring American icon, one of them being tennis legend, Martina Navratilova who took to Twitter to post, “What a match, what an Open, what a career! Epic!!! But I won’t say goodbye until Serena says goodbye!!!“
Martina Navratilova was hinting at Serena’s slim chances of competing at the Australian Open as a joke as Serena herself joked about in a press conference and the American talked about evolving away from tennis but she did not necessarily use the word retirement and that is what it seems like Navratliova is hinting towards.
Navratilova is a huge name when considering the GOAT debate, Serena and Navratilova have been discussed as the GOATs for decades now with many having mixed opinions on the matter, despite that both of them have massive respect for each other as it shows with Navratilova paying her homage to the American icon.
