Dmitry Tursunov opens up about his doubts about coaching Emma Raducanu months before taking the job

Dmitry Tursunov

As Raducanu gears up for defending her US Open title, she made a change in her coaching team and hired Russian coach Dmitry Tursunov as her coach for the US Tour, Tursunov who was the coach of Annet Kontaveit of Estonia before this, did a remarkable job with the player as he took to be ranked world number 2 at one point.

Tursunov however, last November talked about how he was not a big fan of Raducanu’s coaching team and how there is no guarantee when a coach will be fired, he said, “Now Emma Raducanu, who won the US Open, is laying off the people she worked with. Naturally, everyone is shocked. If someone from her team called me now and asked if I wanted to train her, I would tremble with fear because you don’t know when you will be fired.”

Only time will tell what made Tursunov change his mind over the past months as he will be coaching Raducanu for her US Tour, the young Brit will begin her hardcourt season next week as she prepares to play at the Citi Open that commences in a few days, after competing at the Citi Open, Raducanu will participate at the National Bank Open in Toronto before the US Open commences.
