World No. 1 Iga Swiatek remains undefeated as she is now on a 35-match unbeaten streak that started after her 2nd round exit in the 2022 Dubai Tennis Championships. The streak started from the 2022 Qatar Open, the season’s first WTA-1000 event and the Pole has not lost since then winning 6 consecutive titles since then.

The titles include the WTA-1000 titles in Qatar, Indian Wells, Miami and Rome, the WTA-500 event in Stuttgart and her most recent win at the 2022 French Open, her second Grand Slam title with the win in the finals tying her with Venus Williams who along with Iga holds the record for most consecutive wins in the 21st century with Venus having achieved the record during the 2002 season.

Iga will now feature in the grasscourt season looking for her record-smashing 36th consecutive win but the Pole has decided to take a small break and recharge back at her home. Iga has not been home for nearly 2 months having last visited during the 2022 Billie Jean King Cup Qualifiers before she started her claycourt season.

“I want to stay at least a week at home, so I will do that. We have some grass-court venues, like two courts probably, maybe an hour-and-a-half from Warsaw. So I don’t know. I haven’t talked to my coach. It’s usually his decision. But I want to stay in Warsaw for a few days. That will be like the nicest thing for me because I have been on tour since the Fed Cup. Then I came back home for like one night. It doesn’t really count,” said Swiatek as reported by Tennisuptodate.

Iga is currently coached by Tomasz Wiktorowski, the former coach of Agnieszka Radwanska, runner-up at the 2012 Wimbledon and a former World No. 2 player. Iga’s record on Grass has not been great having played only 2 seasons as a Pro although she was the junior champion at the 2018 Wimbledon Championships. At the last year’s Wimbledon, she had made it to the fourth round and is yet to claim a title on the surface as she is yet to reach a quarter-final on the surface.

“My coach believes I can win more matches on grass. I don’t know about that yet. But I would like to add one or two. But honestly, the grass is always tricky. I actually like the part that I have no expectations there. It’s something kind of refreshing. Yeah, I’m going to just prepare my best and maybe with his experiences that he had with Aga Radwanska. It was her favourite surface, so maybe he’s going to give me some tips that are actually going to be really helpful and I’m going to enjoy playing on the grass a little bit more,” added Swiatek.
