“If it doesn’t work… “- Rafael Nadal makes big revelations about his foot injury after historic French Open title win

Rafael Nadal
Many people didn’t even include him on their favourite list of winning the French Open, however, Rafael Nadal has broken all barriers and created records by winning his record 14th French Open title. He has defeated Norway’s tennis sensation Casper Ruud in straight sets 6-3, 6-3, 6-0 to achieve this. It is one of those unique records that might not be broken for a long time or forever.
In addition to winning the 14th trophy from the French Open, Rafa Nadal claimed his 22nd Grand Slam title to add to the men’s record he already holds after his triumph at the Australian Open in January. He took advantage of an uninspired Ruud in the final, who had one of his worst games in a long time, to win another title in Paris. Nadal played a solid match, but he didn’t have to perform at a high level. He accepted what was given to him, and there was a lot to choose from.

“I played with injections on the nerves to be able to play”- Rafael Nadal

Casper Ruud, who has been training at the Rafael Nadal Academy in Mallorca since 2018 and admired Nadal as he was rising through the tennis ranks and reaching his maiden grand slam final, faced off against the maestro on Sunday at Roland Garros. But the 23-year-old was outclassed by Nadal in what was the first time the two had faced each other. Ruud saw the game slip away from him after taking a 3-1 lead in the second set and failing to register a game in the third set.
In his post-match press conference, Rafael Nadal gave more insights into the foot injury he has been suffering from. He said, “Nothing changed in my mind about the foot. Going to keep working to try to find a solution and an improvement for the foot. It’s been a emotional two weeks. I didn’t want to talk about the foot during the tournament.”
“I played with injections on the nerves to be able to play. My doctor was able to put anaesthetic injections on the nerves. It’s a risks in terms of feelings, turning your ankle, that was the only way. If it doesn’t work, it will be another story. I’ll have to ask myself if I’m ready for a major surgery that would help me to play again. We can try to make a treatment to try create this feeling in a permanent condition. That’s we are planning to do next week. I don’t know the name of the treatment in English. The idea is to create the impact I have now on the nerve for a long period of time, ” he added.
