Iga Swiatek has been in impeccable form lately, and she has kicked off her US Open 2023 campaign on a high. She has already reached the round of 16 of the tournament, having won each of her previous matches in straight sets, and is looking to win the fifth Grand Slam of her career. It has been over 74 weeks since Swiatek became the World No. 1 in the WTA rankings. However, the pressure of being the top-ranked player in the world is very high. Thus, she recently talked to Roger Federer and discussed how to handle that pressure.
“Honestly, I have to learn how to find more joy in that. I talked to Roger about that last week. The best way to approach it is to really embrace it and be proud of your results,” Swiatek said about her interaction with Federer in the post match discussion of Round 3.
It must be noted that the Polish ace is an ambassador for Roger Federer’s shoe company, ‘On’. The two players had an event together in an attempt to promote the company, and Swiatek must have had an interaction there.
“Well, from my side, I think just the fact that Roger is involved in that kind of company is just a good kind of recommendation for tennis players. I think he also influenced a lot on their side, so that’s why they want to go further and they want to sign players,” Swiatek had said after joining On.
Iga Swiatek faces Jelena Ostapenko in the Round-of-16
Iga Swiatek has won all her US Open matches so far in straight sets. She beat Rebecca Peterson in the first round, Daria Saville in the second round, and Slovenian Kaja Juvan in the third round.
She will now face Latvian tennis player Jelena Ostapenko in the Round-of-16 of the 2023 US Open. Jelena is the 21st seed in the US Open 2023 and has had a career-high ranking of World No. 5.
Although Iga Swiatek is a much better player on paper and is the World No. 1, she has never defeated Jelena Ostapenko yet. The two players played against each other a total of three times so far and all those matches were won by the Latvian.
