John McEnroe, the legendary former professional tennis player, recently talked about the WTA ‘Big Three’ rivalry and their roles in the 2023 French Open. The 2023 French Open is underway and already fans are seeing some big shockers and absolute classics.

Iga Swiatek, Elena Rybakina, and Aryna Sabalenka have all won their first-round matches in the 2023 Roland Garros. Iga Swiatek faced off against Cristina Bucșa in the first round and although Swiatek won quite comfortably, there was a bit of a struggle in the first set.

John McEnroe talked about Swiatek’s irritation during the first set of the match. He mentioned that Swiatek seemed a bit off, but was not stressed too much. McEnroe continued to pick Swiatek as his favorite even though Elena Rybakina and Aryna Sabalenka are not far off.

“She’s been feeling a lot more pressure this year because everyone expects her to win every tournament and suddenly, Rybakina and Sabalenka have both stepped up and they’re the two who are most likely to win this if it’s not Iga because they’re the ones who can take the racquet out of her hand,” said McEnroe.

McEnroe compared Swiatek to Serena Williams and Kim Clijsters in terms of her movement and claimed that she is one of the best movers he had ever seen. Rybakina and Sabalenka are big hitters which might help them in dry and slippery conditions, but he would still pick Świątek on clay.

Iga Swiatek vs Claire Liu in the 2023 French Open

Swiatek is set to face Claire Liu in the second round of the 2023 French Open. The match is scheduled to happen on June 1, 2023. The match will be live-streamed on Tennis Channel, NBC Sports, Peacock TV  in the USA, TSN in Canada, Eurosport in the UK, and Sony Ten in India.

The World No.1 player is expected to win the match in straight sets. They faced each other once during the 2023 BNP Paribas Open. Swiatek won the match in straight sets.

Iga Swiatek will be playing on her preferred surface and the match might be one-sided. On the other hand, Liu will be looking to pull off a miracle against the World No.1 but the stats and Swiatek’s form suggest that it is not likely to happen.
