Polish World No.1 Iga Swiatek has some good news for the tennis fraternity which is shell-shocked after the withdrawal of Rafael Nadal from the French Open. As per the Polish, the injury setback she had during the Rome Masters is not so serious and she hopes to be back fully fit for retaining the crown in the Parisian Clay. For the uninitiated, the injury happened during the quarter-finals against Elena Rybakina when playing the final set.

The Polish World No.1 said, “We did an examination with the physio afterwards, It shouldn’t be anything serious, so I’m pretty positive that I’ll be back soon. For sure I feel tired. I think it was the right decision to stop playing [in Rome] because I felt pain when I was stretching, when I did harder movements. For me, the most important thing is to play it safe and not exploit my body so much in such difficult conditions, after having to play a few matches in night sessions and after midnight.”

Swiatek continued, “I’m happy right now to have few days off because since [a previous tournament in] Stuttgart I wasn’t really able to recover with that tight schedule that we have on the WTA. A couple of days off for sure. And booking my flight to Paris, so fingers crossed, please.” (Source: Eurosport)

Iga Swiatek was on a 14-match winning streak before the injury

The Polish star was in great form until the injury setback during the quarter-finals of Rome Masters. She was on a 14-match winning streak proving why her world number ranking is still untouchable. Swiatek’s thigh injury started showing concern during the second set tiebreaker in the quarter-finals of the Rome Masters against Elena Rybakina.

Almost on the verge of bursting out, she took a medical timeout after losing the second set, then came back to retire when it was 2 games a piece in the final set. The injury didn’t look so good and the tennis world was expecting some updates from the Polish star herself on her chances of being fully fit for the French Open. But now since she has come up with a piece of positive news, the tennis fraternity is relieved.

The mood of social media and tennis Twitter was not so good for some days since Rafael Nadal’s announcement of withdrawing from the Roland Garros but this injury update of the Women’s World No.1 has certainly helped to reduce the tension a bit overall. Swiatek is a two-time champion in French Open. Before the dominating final last year against Coco Gauff, her first title there was in 2020.
