Iga Swiatek once again proved that she is very humble despite being the World no. 1. After defeating Bernarda Pera (6-3, 6-2) in the round of 32 at the Madrid Open, her interviewer called it ‘quite an easy win’. Iga corrected her interviewer saying “I wouldn’t say it was easy, every match is tricky here…“. She also spoke highly of her American opponent Bernarda Pera saying that “It’s never easy playing against her (Bernarda)“
Iga Swiatek has been world no. 1, for 56 consecutive weeks now. But that has not reduced her modesty in any way. After winning the match against Bernarda Pera, she also said that she is happy that she is finding her rhythm back. “I am pretty happy that I was very disciplined and focused,” said the 21-year-old Polish.
Iga and Bernarda had met only once on the court back in 2017 before their match in the Madrid Open. It was a qualifier match in the Birmingham Classic a WTA 250. There too Iga had prevailed over Bernarda in 3 sets. Iga’s round of 16 will be decided in the match between Chinese 22nd seed Zheng Qinwen, who was the only player to take a set off her at Roland Garros last year, and the 16th seed Ekaterina Alexandrova.

Iga Swiatek is considered very humble by the tennis fraternity
Iga Swiatek has been consistently on the top but that has not made her arrogant at all. In fact, she has been humbled by the process of learning and winning on different surfaces. Recently in an Instagram story, Barbara Krejcikova told an Iga fan that she is “Super nice and humble“. She is always very respectful of her opponent and also of senior players. Swiatek has always spoken very highly of the Big 3, Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal, and Novak Djokovic. She considers them her inspiration, especially Roger Federer.
Recently an interviewer asked her about her accomplishments and how she alone manages to do that. Iga quickly shifted the focus of the question from her and said “I mean, Serena(Williams) does that(too).” And usually, she ends up blushing when she receives praise from her interviewers. Keep the modesty going, Iga!
