“You are a resilient role model and an inspiration,” Iga Swiatek responds to Andy Murray’s comments on her current red-hot form
Iga Swiatek heaped praise on Andy Murray as her dominant run in the Middle East continues.
There seems to be no stopping Iga Swiatek at the moment. The three-time Grand Slam champion claimed the Doha Open title last week, where she made light work of her opponents. She dropped just five games en route to her first WTA title this season. The Polish tennis star has carried on her form into the Dubai Open, where she has already reached the quarterfinals.
Iga Swiatek’s current red-hot form is certainly not going unnoticed. Fellow three-time Grand Slam champion Andy Murray commented on the world number’s one current streak, stating that she was built differently. Iga Swiatek promptly responded to Andy Murray’s tweet, heaping praise on the two-time Wimbledon champion.
Recently, she defeated Liudmila Samsonova in straight sets in the second round of the Dubai Open, dropping just one game. This means that the 21-year-old’s last six victories have come against the top 20 ranked players or former Grand Slam finalists. She defeated the 2023 Australian Open quarterfinalist, Jessica Pegula, in the finals of the Qatar Open last week.
“Thank you for everything that you do for this sport,” Iga Swiatek on Andy Murray
Iga Swiatek stated that Andy Murray is a role model and an inspiration for the younger generation. She also thanked him for his vital contribution to the sport over the last decade and a half.
“And you are a resilience role model and an inspiration on do many levels. Thank you for everything that you do for this sport,” Swiatek wrote.
Andy Murray has been in some form as well off late. The former world number one has reached the quarterfinals of the Qatar Open, by defeating Alexander Zverev in a tight three-set encounter. This victory comes just a couple of days after his first-round victory over Italian, Lorenzo Sonego.
Andy Murray has had a busy start to the year, as he was engaged in two five-set battles at the 2023 Australian Open. His emotional run in Melbourne was eventually cut short by Roberto Bautista Agut, who defeated him in four sets.
