Iga Swiatek sends out a touching message to Ons Jabeur after her injury in Stuttgart
Iga Swiatek appreciates the injured Ons Jabeur for her efforts, expects to meet again in French Open final.
Iga Swiatek and Ons Jabeur
Polish World No.1 Iga Swiatek showed utmost compassion toward Tunisian World No.4 Ons Jabeur after the latter had to withdraw from their Stuttgart Open semi-finals while trailing 0-3 in the first set. The Tunisian faced some struggles in her left leg after the first game itself in a much-anticipated encounter between these top players on Sarurdar. Swaitak will face the Australian Open champion Aryna Sabalenka in the final.
Swiatek was so compassionate for the Tunisian after her unfortunate withdrawal. Swiatek said in the post-match interview, “I really respect the fact that she came out and she tried. I told her we’re probably going to play the Roland Garros Final, so we’ll see each other there. She’s a fighter.”
Swiatek was unsure about the severity of her opponent’s injury until she decided to withdraw from the match. Swiatek rushed to the bench of Ons and comforted her. The Polish World No.1 Iga Swiatek has won hearts on internet with her latest act of being a true sportsman. She has also shown great human touch.
Swiatek will face Sabalenka in the finals, and Jabeur will try to be ready before the French Open
Before the withdrawal of Ons Jabeur in the semi-finals, the top seed defeated Karolina Pliskova in the quarterfinals, as she came back from a set down. The final against Aryna Sabalenka will surely be her biggest test at the Stuttgart Open. This final is a rematch of last year’s clash. In 2022, Swiatek came on top in straight sets and she went on to win the French Open title as well.
Iga Swiatek has a superior head-to-head record over Aryna Sabalenka, having beaten her on four occasions. Their last two encounters on clay courts have ended in favor of Iga Swiatek, as she won both matches in straight sets. Aryna Sabalenka claimed a comfortable victory over Anastasia Potapova in the semifinals on Saturday, as she dropped just three games. The second seed defeated Barbora Krejcikova in the first round in straight sets, before claiming a close three-set victory over Paula Badosa in the last 16.
Ons Jabeur will be trying her best to come back from the leg injury in a shorter time to be ready for the French Open. The severity of the injury is not yet known. The tennis world is looking forward to hearing from her.
