It was one of the biggest upsets of the ongoing US Open as the World No. 1 and one of the huge favorites of the competition got knocked out of the tournament. During Iga Swiatek‘s round of 16 matchup against Jelena Ostapenko, no one would have hoped the Pole to lose the encounter after she picked up the first set in great dominating fashion.

However, Jelena Ostapenko’s huge comeback in the later sector of the match proved costly for Swiatek, to which she has absolutely no answers whatsoever, bowing out of the last Slam of the year.

As expected, Swiatek looked extremely dejected as soon as the match ended, with her losing the match by a scoreline of 3-6, 6-3, 6-1. In the last set, she was no match for the Latvian, as she continued to make numerous unforced errors.

After the final point, Jelena was literally pumped up with her scintillating fightback win, stunning the entire tennis world with her limitless tennis. While she was smiling and enjoying her win, she approached Swiatek for a handshake, which Swiatek barely joined without even looking into Jelena’s eyes. It was pretty evident that Iga was in trouble at the moment, having suffered a huge setback even after a resilient performance in the first set.

It’s been very disappointing in terms of results in the last couple of tournaments, not being able to make it count until the last stages. She has always had the right start in every single tournament she has played in the last few months, failing to convert it into a title. Her Major title came at the Roland Garros way back in May, after which she only achieved success at her home tournament, the Poland Open.

Apart from these, she has won the Stuttgart Open and the Qatar Open, but she has failed considerably at the major tournaments. She has failed to win any Masters titles and fumbled in the crucial stages of the Grand Slams. This marks her disappointment in bowing out of back-to-back Grand Slams even before reaching the semis, which is very disappointing considering the standards of a player like Siwatek.
