It was just another day at the office for World No.1 Iga Swiatek as she blasted past 20th seed Daria Kasatkina in the semifinals of the 2022 French Open in straight sets 6-2,6-1 to reach her second grand slam final. The Pole made it to the final in Paris in 2020 where she won her maiden grand slam title.

Swiatek was the pre-match favorite but nobody expected her to dominate in the way she did. She dropped less than 10 points on her serve in the entire match and was hitting winners left, right, and center at will. With this win, Swiatek has extended her winning streak to 34 matches and will be eyeing a 6th consecutive title. Out of her previous 5, 4 titles were WTA 1000 while the Stuttgart Open was a WTA 500 event.

With her win, Swiatek has equaled Serena Williams‘ highest career winning streak of 34 matches which she achieved in 2013. The 34-match winning streak is also the second-highest winning streak in women’s tennis since the 2000s which Swiatek has matched. She is now just one match away from matching the longest winning streak in women’s tennis since the 2000s- i.e. Venus Williams’ 35 matches unbeaten streak.

On Saturday, Swiatek will contest her second grand slam final and aim to win her second major title. She has previously won Roland Garros in 2020 and will be the favorite to back it up given her amazing form. She will face either teenager Coco Gauff or Martina Trevisan in the final. This will also be her first major final as the World No.1.

Apart from her second major, if she wins, she will have a record 6 consecutive titles under her belt and will also match Venus Williams’ record winning streak of 35 matches. Having said that, she is a huge favorite and should win the 2022 French Open comfortably.
