Iga Swiatek is perhaps the biggest admirer of Rafael Nadal. She has always spoken about how much she admires the King of clay’s game and his work ethics. At the press conference after her first-round match at the Italian Open, Iga talked about the Rafael Nadal injury situation. She, like most of his fans would love to see him back in action, but she also wants the Spaniard to ensure he is fit and doesn’t cause harm to his health.

The world no. 1, Iga Swiatek said, “I would like him to be able to play, of course. I really respect the type of warrior he is, he is always trying to push himself, to be better and to compete at the highest level.” She has always maintained the immense amount of appreciation she has for his tenacity. But she was quick to add concern about his health. Like many others she doesn’t know the amount of pain the 22 time Grand Slam singles champion is in. Or how unfit he is. Iga said, “I also don’t know how much pain he’s in, I don’t want to see him suffer. I’m a bit biased because I’d love to see him play again, but if he’s going to suffer I know it won’t be fun.

Iga was talking at the post-match conference about her famous double bagel win against Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova. She concluded by saying she hopes Nadal’s health remains paramount. Iga adds, “I just hope that he is healthy and happy, that is the main objective, whatever happens with tennis.“

Iga Swiatek believes all players should emulate Rafael Nadal

A few days back, Iga Swiatek told in an interview how she thinks every player should adopt Nadal’s style of playing. Talking about how tennis is becoming faster and more furious as compared to the defend and then attack game. She feels that Rafael Nadal does the defense and then counterattacks very well, and players, irrespective of gender, should imitate the tactic. Rather than going for just speed and power and winning a point as soon as possible, the player should set the opponent for a counterattack.

Not just Rafael Nadal, Iga feels the same for Novak Djokovic. She admires Novak’s precision game and sets up each rally to succeed. But Nadal stays the Queen of clay, Swiatek’s greatest inspiration. She grew up idolizing Nadal, and once she became a tennis player, she realized her idol was indeed a great person. She keeps Rafael Nadal as a great reference point in her life as a tennis player.
