“I’m going to do my best to get even more”- Iga Swiatek wins a record 37th match in a row, advances to the third round

When Iga Swiatek lost a set to Kerkhove at Wimbledon, she was in a difficult situation, but she rallied in time to win the match 6-4 4-6 6-3. It takes some time to recall the times when Iga Swiatek had problems defeating opponents, but Lesley Kerkhove helped everyone understand that it is feasible.
Even though the surface was grass and Swiatek’s performance was far from her best, the Dutch player gave the Polish player, at least on this surface, quite a strong guide. After both players had trouble maintaining their serves at the beginning of the match, Swiatek trailed her 2-4 in the opening set.
I’m just trying to play the best tennis possible on grass: Iga Swiatek
There is no doubt that Iga Swiatek had a chaotic beginning to the match, but as the match progressed, she was able to get control of her groundstrokes and win the first set 6-4. It was a 4-0 run to close it out behind 10+ winners from Swiatek against a player who could not match that same production. Both players played well in the second set, but in the end, Kerkhove took a 5-3 lead.
She finished off the 2nd set 6-4 after Swiatek missed a couple of balls at the worst possible time. Swiatek struggled to start the final set as well facing a 15-40 on her serve early but held on. It proved the deciding spark she needed as she found her shots not long after that taking the break and eventually closing out the match 6-3.
In her on-court interview, Swiatek said, “I think another match to this number [37] is pretty special for me, but you know, when I’m out there, I’m not really thinking about that. “She played a really great match and it seemed that she really understood how to play today, but I’m really happy that I could sometimes just fight back and be the last one to play that ball in. I’m pretty happy that I’m going to have a next chance to play here,” added Swiatek who will face France’s Alize Cornet in the third round.
