Novak Djokovic clinched his 7th Wimbledon title, 4th in a row on the 10th of July, 2022 defeating Nick Kyrgios. This win made him closer to equaling Rafael Nadal‘s record of most Grand Slam titles. With this win, he equals his record with his childhood idol, a former tennis legend, Pete Sampras who has also 7 Wimbledon titles. He was ecstatic on receiving a grand welcome from his fellow country people.

Djokovic had a very bitter experience at the Australian Open 2022 as he was deported from the country due to his ‘not-vaccinated’ status. He had to face a lot of criticism after that and it did affect him mentally and emotionally. But he did not let that affect him too much and he came back to reach the quarter-finals of the French Open 2022 and eventually won at the SW19.

“It’s impossible to understand how he could it” Alex Corretja on Novak Djokovic

Former World No 2 Alex Corretja is a French Open double finalist. He applauded Djokovic on his win even after when he was facing so much difficulties and hardships after the Australian Open fiasco. He overcame his struggles and showed what a true champion is made of. He would have faced a lot of turmoil but it did not deter him at all. Rather, he fought through them brilliantly and winning the title shut down the haters.

The Spanish legend is truly amazed by the Serbian’s fighting attitude. He further said that, “I don’t even know how we can do that. The control of emotions… How good you have to be as a tennis player, as a human being, as a professional, consistency. It’s almost impossible to understand but I’m very happy for him.”

Currently, the Serbian is uncertain if he will be playing at the US Open 2022 or not. He is hoping that the US Government makes some changes to their laws so that he can play at the tournament. Right now, he is still unvaccinated and has no intention of getting vaccinated either.
