“I’m not impartial,” Martina Navratilova insists that Serena Williams can’t be called the GOAT as ‘generations can’t be compared’

Serena Williams, the 40-year-old American professional is widely regarded as the greatest female tennis player of all time with 23 grand slam titles to her name, there is no doubt that Serena Williams deserves a place among the all-time greats of tennis that she has rightfully gotten after such a career.

After announcing her retirement from tennis recently, Serena Williams broke a lot of hearts across the world as she announced that she would be retiring from professionally competing after participating in the ongoing US Open, Serena received a huge reception from the crowd as she showed off her skills for one last time.

Martina Navratilova opines on the female GOAT debate and talks about Serena Williams

Serena started off her US Open campaign with a bang, she won the first two rounds of the tournament against Danka Kovinic and Anett Kontaveit but Australian professional Ajla Tomljanovic proved to be too tough of an opponent for Serena as she was eliminated in the third round of the US Open.

Serena Williams is widely regarded as the GOAT of women’s tennis, but there are many who opine that other players should be in the debate as well, Czech-American tennis legend, Martina Navratilova opened up about her thoughts on the GOAT debate.

She said, “Everybody talks about the GOAT, but you cannot compare generations. There are a handful of people, all-time greats that belong in there. For the maybe the last two generations, she is that. Of all time? It depends how you measure it. It’s really hard for me to say because, obviously, I’m not impartial.“

Navratilova also insisted that Serena Williams has had a huge impact on the sport saying, “Bridging so many chasms in the world of sport. She was just a powerful Black woman kicking ass. It really came down to that. Not just transcending tennis, but all of sport. Not too many can claim that. And bringing a new generation to the sport.“

Serena Williams is truly a strong contender for being the GOAT of women’s tennis as she has inspired millions on her way to the top.
