Indian Wells 2024: Stefanos Tsitsipas beats Frances Tiafoe as Carlos Alcaraz, Iga Swiatek, Jannik Sinner, and Ben Shelton reach Round 4
The top seeds eased past their opponents but there were a few upsets too.

The fifth day at 2024 Indian Wells was filled with plenty of action as top ATP and WTA stars played their respective matches. The likes of Iga Swiatek, Carlos Alcaraz, Jannik Sinner, Stefanos Tsitsipas, and Ben Shelton were in action on Day 5. All these stars won their matches and progressed to the next round.
As Swiatek, Alcaraz, Sinner, Tsitsipas, and Shelton won their third-round matches at the Masters tournament, they have reached the pre-quarterfinals. While Swiatek beat Linda Noskova and avenged her defeat against the Czech at the 2024 Australian Open, Sinner and Alcaraz eased past Jan-Lennard Struff and Felix Auger-Aliassime respectively.
Meanwhile, Ben Shelton had to sweat hard against Francisco Cerundolo in the third-round clash. The American managed to beat the Argentine though. Stefanos Tsitsipas also had a good day at the office as the Greek ace defeated Frances Tiafoe to reach the pre-quarterfinals.
The other stars who were in action on the fifth day include Danish veteran Caroline Wozniacki, Ukraine’s Marta Kostyuk, Alexander Zverev, Andrey Rublev, and Alex de Minaur.

Iga Swiatek avenges her Australian Open defeat to Linda Noskova
Polish tennis ace Iga Swiatek avenged her defeat to Linda Noskova at the 2024 Australian Open as the 21-year-old beat the Czech in straight sets in the third round. Swiatek also served Noskova a bagel in the second set to close the match in her favor.
The Czech tried to fight in the first set as Noskova won four games against Swiatek’s six. However, the 19-year-old was taken to the cleaners by the Polish ace in the second set. Swiatek raced to a 6-0 win and clinched the match in an hour and 12 minutes.
Knife on the butter for Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz in the third round
Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz had little trouble defeating their opponents in the third round. Both players registered straight-set wins. While Sinner took down Jan-Lennard Struff, Alcaraz eased past Canadian Felix Auger-Aliassime.
Sinner took an hour and fourteen minutes to wrap up his match against Struff. The reigning Australian Open champion beat the German 6-3, 6-4. Meanwhile, Alcaraz also registered an emphatic victory as the Spaniard beat Auger-Aliassime 6-2, 6-3 in an hour and 17 minutes.
Ben Shelton survives against Francisco Cerundolo
American tennis star Ben Shelton survived a scare against Francisco Cerundolo as the 21-year-old beat the Argentine in three sets. Shelton won the first set in the tiebreaker but was pushed to the brink. Cerundolo then came back roaring in the second set toppling Shelton 6-3.
It all went into the decider and the two players fought a neck-to-neck battle. Although Shelton enjoyed a lead at the start, the Argentine fought back to force a tiebreaker. The two players were at it in the tiebreaker as well. However, Shelton did a great job of landing back-to-back winners to reach seven points and claim the match.
Andrey Rublev suffers early exit as Jiri Lehecka stuns the Russian
After getting disqualified at the Mexican Open, Andrey Rublev suffered an early exit at the 2024 Indian Wells.
The Russian could not hold his ground against Jiri Lehecka in the third round and was defeated in straight sets. The Czech took an hour and 13 minutes to oust the fifth seed.
Stefanos Tsitsipas advances to fourth round with win over Frances Tiafoe
Stefanos Tsitsipas had a good outing in the third round at the 2024 Indian Wells as the Greek ace defeated Frances Tiafoe.
Tsitsipas had little trouble beating the American. The Greek star won the match in straight sets of 6-3, 6-3 in an hour and eighteen minutes. He will next face Jiri Lehecka in the pre-quarterfinals.
