Karen Khachanov qualfies for the semi-finals of the 2023 Australian Open as Sebastian Korda is forced to retire midway through the third set.
Sebastian Korda and Karen Khachanov
It ends in heartbreak for Sebastian Korda at the 2023 Australian Open. The American youngster was looking to follow in father Petr Korda‘s footsteps at Melbourne Park. Although Pet won the title in 1998, Sebastian will have to wait a little longer for that.
Playing against Karen Khachanov in the quarter-finals, the American was putting in a great battle. After going down 0-3 in the first set in nine minutes, Korda managed to force a tiebreaker which he lost. The second set was much better for the Russian who won the set 6-3.
Khachanov was leading 3-0 in the third set when Korda declared himself done for the match handing a walkover during the changeover due to what’s believed to be a wrist injury. Khachanov did not throw any tantrum as he was cruising towards a win. He rather wished Korda for a quick recovery mentioning it during his on-court interview as well.
